Summary

To psychobiotyczna rewolucja。

Really good approach to microbiota relevance in our mental health and metabolism。 Written in an accessible language for everyone to get the full picture of this matter。 A must read for the ones that are making changes of lifestyle and habits。

I feel like it’s one of the best books I’ve read in my whole life, it’s nice to understand connection between brain and gut, but also nice to get dietary recommendations as well as learn more about each specific probiotic ! Recommend to everyone who cares about their health !

Very informative。 Clear writing, backed up by collaboration with two scientists, Scott Anderson gives a clear introduction to the science of the mind gut connection。

The book does a great job of explaining the effects that the gut biome can have on physical and mental health。 The chapter on our microbiome from birth to death was excellent。 Our microbiome comes primarily from our mothers。 Microbiomes might be passed down for generations。 The chapter describing a voyage down through the digestive system from a microbial perspective was also excellent。 There is a lot of information about how people can use diet, supplements, and others means to change their mic The book does a great job of explaining the effects that the gut biome can have on physical and mental health。 The chapter on our microbiome from birth to death was excellent。 Our microbiome comes primarily from our mothers。 Microbiomes might be passed down for generations。 The chapter describing a voyage down through the digestive system from a microbial perspective was also excellent。 There is a lot of information about how people can use diet, supplements, and others means to change their microbiome if they have various illnesses。 Fascinating stuff and perhaps also useful。 The last chapter had some speculation about areas scientists are working on as the scientific knowledge of the microbial life inside us grows。 On the negative side, at times the author writes too much in the self-help book vein。 。。。more

Excellent, easy to read book about the gut micro biome and it’s relation to anxiety and depression mostly, but really about many different physical ailments。 I especially enjoyed the science-one chapter has 116 references! Don’t let this deter you though, it is very easy to read。 It makes me excited for more research on the microbiome and how we can feed it to help our bodies remain or become healthier。 I would highly recommend this if you have any anxiety/depression or bowel issues。

This book is ideal for anyone with digestive problems coupled with depression and anxiety。 The thesis of this book is about how a imbalanced microbiota in the gut affects your mental health and vice versa。 The first few chapters are like a crash course into how your gut works, background information regarding the discovery of bacteria, and their psychobiotic effects。 There were a few case studies along the way to support the arguments。If you’re only interested in how this book can help you and n This book is ideal for anyone with digestive problems coupled with depression and anxiety。 The thesis of this book is about how a imbalanced microbiota in the gut affects your mental health and vice versa。 The first few chapters are like a crash course into how your gut works, background information regarding the discovery of bacteria, and their psychobiotic effects。 There were a few case studies along the way to support the arguments。If you’re only interested in how this book can help you and not so much the science part, you can skip directly to chapter 7。 Chapter 7 provides very actionable suggestions such as choosing the right probiotic strains, understanding the significance of diet and how to adjust it accordingly。This has motivated me to make lifestyle changes and put more effort in watching what I eat because it seems like many health afflictions stem from gut imbalances。 Whether the suggestions really help is still up for debate。 I’ll do a follow up review again a few months。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book for reasons not related to why I picked it up in the first place。 It was a fun, yet science-heavy read on the digestive system, and I especially liked learning how exactly the immune system works via the gut。 There is still a lot to be discovered and learned about the connection between mental health and gut microbiota, so that part was a little shaky。 Overall, the authors did a good job of making the information accessible and interesting。

While this book is chock full of fascinating and important tidbits, it's not particularly easy to read。 The "huh?" factor is sky high。 It's difficult to follow as the author casts about to construct a coherent narrative that I am not sure is scientifically correct。 Hopefully, further into the book it will come together。 To qualify that statement, I realize writing about this subject is tremendously difficult due to the complexity and dearth of information about the subject and the utter ignoranc While this book is chock full of fascinating and important tidbits, it's not particularly easy to read。 The "huh?" factor is sky high。 It's difficult to follow as the author casts about to construct a coherent narrative that I am not sure is scientifically correct。 Hopefully, further into the book it will come together。 To qualify that statement, I realize writing about this subject is tremendously difficult due to the complexity and dearth of information about the subject and the utter ignorance and pushback of the allopathic industry。 It's a subject I've been writing about since 2004 when I began a probiotic protocol a friend developed in an attempt to heal his dysfunctional painful gut and explaining it ain't easy。 To my complete delight and astonishment, my struggling mental health improved impressively after only a couple months following his protocol that we named BeingNBalance。 I was so impressed with the improvements to my bodymind, I quit being a journalist and went back to university to acquire a masters in applied behavioral science which allowed me to become a mental health counselor, so I could share this life-changing secret with others。 I became a missionary of sorts, due to firsthand knowledge that the most effective therapy I had found in a 13-year search for improved mental health was a rebalance of my small intestine。 Who knew? Well, I knew from personal experience and the anecdotal evidence of others, but it was apparent that most docs, shrinks and nutritionists did not。 Launching BodymindCounseling。com in 2005 as the online presence of my practice has been a fascinating journey in a world poised on the threshold of realizing germ theory and the therapeutic interventions it spawned are utterly wrong headed。 I'm delighted that well-funded pHd researchers are beginning to catch up to the fact that the primary paradigm of life is microbiological and the health of the individual and the planet lies in making the 99 percent of life on earth and in our microbiomes happy。 Make them unhappy and you get anxiety, depression and worse and at a macro level, a situation like the current pandemic。 Just guessing, but I'd put money on the fact that every one of the folks who have died from COVID19 had environmentally-unbalanced microbiomes that couldn't assimilate a new virus。 Read and live, but don't believe the French propaganda about a little red wine being good for you。 No microbiotic life likes alcohol。 It's toxic。 。。。more

The gut bacteria rules the brain。 If the bacteria in your gut is sick you become sick too。 If the bacteria in your gut is happy you become happy too。 So it is very important to eat healthy and happy foods to maintain healthy and happy gut bacteria。 The biochemicals digested into the blood excreted out by the bacteria influence the brain to produce happy neuro chemicals that make the body happy and healthy。The state of your mind is based on biological factors。

Not that I don’t already eat a lot of kimchi, but this book just inspired to eat more of it。 here’s to a happy gut! and a happy heart! and a happy mind!

A must read。 Best book on the microbiome I’ve read and I’ve read most of what is available。 Well researched, well written and there’s no sales pitch or ridiculous diet plan。 Just science and mind blowing information。

An overview of some of the interesting connections between gut bacteria, mental health and physical health。 The science is summarized and footnoted。 The book goes in more of a self help direction。 The final conclusion is simplistic - all mental health problems could be solved with the right gut bacteria。 This knocks down a 4 star book to 3 stars。 The brain is far more complex than any organ - you cannot really claim that this one factor will solve depression and anxiety while neglecting all the An overview of some of the interesting connections between gut bacteria, mental health and physical health。 The science is summarized and footnoted。 The book goes in more of a self help direction。 The final conclusion is simplistic - all mental health problems could be solved with the right gut bacteria。 This knocks down a 4 star book to 3 stars。 The brain is far more complex than any organ - you cannot really claim that this one factor will solve depression and anxiety while neglecting all the other psycho-social factors, genetic factors, etc。 。。。more

Very helpful look at the research on psychobiology, the gut brain connection, and how to help your body heal and function better by eating probiotic rich foods。 As a long time sufferer of GI ailments I have found the recommendations to be effective。 I will say that if you have a tendency towards obsessive food patterns or disordered eating you’ll probably want to take the recommendations with a grain of salt (i。e。 they recommend totally removing all refined sugar, I take a more flexible approach Very helpful look at the research on psychobiology, the gut brain connection, and how to help your body heal and function better by eating probiotic rich foods。 As a long time sufferer of GI ailments I have found the recommendations to be effective。 I will say that if you have a tendency towards obsessive food patterns or disordered eating you’ll probably want to take the recommendations with a grain of salt (i。e。 they recommend totally removing all refined sugar, I take a more flexible approach to this)。 。。。more

While this is quite technical in parts, it is a fascinating read。 It presents the case of how the brain and the gut are integrally connected and how they influence each other。 It is also quite convincing in its suggestion that perhaps the gut is the key driver in the human body, rather than the brain。 It explains the role of the gut in depression and anxiety and explores why we see such a drastic increase of these conditions in recent years。 It also explains why breast feeding babies is critical While this is quite technical in parts, it is a fascinating read。 It presents the case of how the brain and the gut are integrally connected and how they influence each other。 It is also quite convincing in its suggestion that perhaps the gut is the key driver in the human body, rather than the brain。 It explains the role of the gut in depression and anxiety and explores why we see such a drastic increase of these conditions in recent years。 It also explains why breast feeding babies is critical and how antibiotics explode like a bomb inside you, when perhaps ‘an antibiotic sniper’ could do a far more efficient job in killing pathogens。 Its left me curious to see where the science is heading! There is a lot of good information in this book。 Eating probiotics and prebiotics correctly, you could hack your diet/mental health。 You can mitigate some effects of depression and anxiety by gearing your diet to your gut microbes。It gave a lot of good information on the above section。 However, there were parts of this book where the author made claims, then failed to back them up。 It argued against eating much meat (then didn't back it up), against drinking alcohol (then argued for moderation, There is a lot of good information in this book。 Eating probiotics and prebiotics correctly, you could hack your diet/mental health。 You can mitigate some effects of depression and anxiety by gearing your diet to your gut microbes。It gave a lot of good information on the above section。 However, there were parts of this book where the author made claims, then failed to back them up。 It argued against eating much meat (then didn't back it up), against drinking alcohol (then argued for moderation, but didn't back either) to name a few sections that could have further analysis。I very much appreciated the information, I'd just recommend reading this carefully, and noting references for sections that aren't well defended。 。。。more

The only reason I didn’t finish this is because I had to return it to the library。 I quite enjoyed reading it, which is surprising considering I only read it for a science project。 It made the topic so much easier to understand due to the fact that it used simple terms, analogies and humour。

One of the best books on medicine of the gut microbiome。 Explores some really exciting science that will likely revolutionise medicine of the 21st century and beyond。

An eye opener into the world of our tiny friends! The in-depth look at the world of microbes and bacteria presented in this book, has completely changed my understanding of their contributions to our well being。 So far , the best discussion about brain-gut axis connection I have ever seen。 Great book, worth reading !

An interesting book correlating mood with the digestive system。 A bit too detailed for my taste but I suppose it is important to fully understand the content。 I hope to explore this subject more fully。
